New Age Photographer

This was another photo I found in the archive from last summer. I took it because it has become such a familiar site. Lots of tourists now don't bother taking cameras, just their mobile phones! Although the picture quality is never going to be great, I prefer to see people doing this than filming everything with those Godforsaken camcorders. And in a way, the launch of camera phones and digital cameras has sown the seeds for a new crop of photographers, many of whom might not have thought about photography as a hobby or an interest before.

Its a very familiar site- even here in the city. Camcorders? I didn't know people still used those :P I have that option on my digital camera but never got around to using it... Maybe I'll try it out and try to figure out why people stopped filming...

Photography was something that has always caught my eye- but I was never very good at it- and [for some reason] never took any of those classes offered in school...

Another great post Dustin :) and be sure to let me know what Betty C. has to say for herself if she gets around to you ^_^

GREAT TITLE! Very interesting commentary, too. A lot of it I hadn't thought of before. I'd like to think most people who use their phone as their main camera aren't really on the gateway technology yet...I mean, they're not even working with an Elph. :) I think it takes a true drive and passion to step up into the big leagues (maybe I'm wrong). Just to reiterate, I love the title; it's one of the best I've seen in a long time. The BW tones work here nicely, and the light off her hair is great. Regards, Brent

Oh, and camcorders suck if all you're doing is capturing tourist sites. I'd love to have a camcorder and record a low-budget film, though. Dreams....

    Great candid!

I think I used my mobile phone cam to snap a picture of my dog...the reason?....to make a wallpaper background for my phone!!! :o) Other than that, I find it completely useless.

Camcorders...had one when tapes were still the recording medium...didn't use it much, won't ever own another.

Hey, this is a great photo and an excellent post. I'm with Brent, that's a cool title. There's a link on my blog to a whole gallery of photos that were taken with a phone. Some of them are pretty darn good. I'm not very good at HTML, so I don't know how to put the link here, but you should check it out.

I do love the fact that I see more cameras (in one form or another) than I've ever seen before. Hopefully there will be a lot of personal history recorded for future generations to enjoy.

Yes yes indeed, very good theme, Im also observing there are so many people using their phones to take photos (and video too), and the phone-cameras have been really improved :)
